Morning: 11:00 a.m. - Noon
Evening: 7:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.

Bernard Malamud's last novel, God's Grace, is not only a fascinating read; it also gives a contemporary interpretation of the meaning of original sin and of the mystery of salvation.  Be prepared for a different kind of meditation for this Lenten season!  The characters created by this great Jewish novelist stay with you.  As one review says, "the novel's fresh and pervasive humor, narrative ingenuity, and tragic sense of the human condition make it one of Malamud's most extraordinary books."

The MSATCW field trip will include  time with a docent from the museum, time for personal exploration, lunch and discussion.

There is a metered on street parking on Key Highway and around the AVAM. If you would like to car-pool from the Center, please indicate so on the registration form. Car-poolers will park at MSATCW and leave at 10:30 a.m. for the AVAM.

The Good War and Those Who Refused to Fight It

Friday, May 2, 2008
Dinner (Vintage Menu): 6:15 p.m.
Film: 7:15 p.m., followed by discussion

Ken Burns won wide acclaim for his video series, The War, that ran on PBS in 2007.  But, as Colman McCarthy pointed out, there was no mention in that documentary of those whose conscience drove them to resist the war and find alternative ways to serve the nation.  Our offering fills that gap and reminds all that even "good wars" need the questioning consciences of thoughtful citizens. Running time 57 minutes.

Reading Women
Speaking of Faith by Krista Tippett
Discussion led by Diane M. Caplin, Ph.D.
Wednesdays, May 7, 21, 28, 2008
11:00 a.m. – Noon
7:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.

Krista Tippett, creator and host of a public radio program, here writes of her experiences interviewing people about their faith.  Praise for the text has been universal.  Patricia Hampl, herself a distinguished author, says:  "Krista Tippet manages to claim the middle-space—a very large, inclusive space—where most of us live most of the time, a place in which we must ponder and live the abiding questions of faith, doubt and meaning that have been at the heart of human experience from time immemorial."
